Skin Effect Depth

Skin depth δ = √(ρ/(πfμ)), the depth at which current density falls to 1/e (≈37%) of its surface value in a conductor carrying AC current. At high frequency, current crowds into this thin surface layer, effectively shrinking the usable conductor cross-section.

skin depth δ
Effective current-carrying layer thickness δ at the conductor surface.
