Open data for a field built on precision

— Terms of Service

Last updated: September 18, 2026. By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

The Service

OpenSpecEngineering is a free, publicly accessible engineering reference site — reference tables, standards summaries, and calculators — provided as a personal project. No account, login, fee, or registration is required to use it.

No Professional Advice; Disclaimer of Warranties

All content on this site — including reference tables, formulas, and calculator results — is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not professional engineering, safety, or design advice, and is not a substitute for the independent judgment of a qualified, licensed professional. Formulas and reference data are drawn from published sources believed to be reliable, but standards change, transcription errors happen, and no automated calculator can account for every real-world condition affecting your specific application.

You are solely responsible for independently verifying any value, formula, tolerance, or specification against current official standards and for exercising your own professional judgment before relying on it — especially for production, safety-critical, or load-bearing work. This site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of this site will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages — including without limitation personal injury, property damage, lost profits, or lost data — arising out of or in any way connected with your use of, or inability to use, this site or its content, whether based on warranty, contract, tort, or any other legal theory, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator of this site from any claim, demand, loss, or damage, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your use or misuse of the site or its content, or your violation of these terms.

Intellectual Property & Third-Party Sources

Except where a source is cited, the text, layout, and calculator implementations on this site are the operator's own work. Many reference tables and formulas are drawn from, and credited to, published third-party sources (textbooks, industry standards bodies, and similar) — those citations are provided for attribution and further reading, not as a license to those works, and the cited organizations retain whatever rights they hold in their own original publications. If you believe content here infringes a right you hold, contact the site via the Contact page.

Donations

The donation button on the Donate page is a voluntary, optional way to support this project. A donation is not a purchase of goods or services, does not create any obligation on the operator's part, and is non-refundable except where required by law.

Third-Party Services

This site relies on third-party services to operate — including Cloudflare (hosting), Web3Forms (contact form delivery), and Stripe (donation processing). Each is governed by its own terms and privacy policy, which this site doesn't control. See the Privacy Policy for details on what each service can see.

No Warranty of Availability

This site is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. The operator does not guarantee that the site will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.

Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles, and any dispute arising from these terms or use of the site will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in that state.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
